Meet the Sheep

Elijah
Elijah is one of nine sheep at the farm, the other is his brother Klaus. A local farmer was breeding sheep/lambs for meat and these two suddenly lost their mother at only 2 weeks old. Being orphans they needed to be bottle fed so the farmer asked Jodie if she would do it. Jodie said “yes but you won’t be getting them back”. The two boys then came straight to the farm and Jodie bottle fed them both along with the two baby goats Nadine and Elena so all four of them now truly think Jodie is their mum. They are all the most loving animals ever and want constant attention. Those who follow the Instagram stories will know how needy these four are. They still think they’re babies and try to sit on Jodie’s lap! The sheep think they’re goats as they’ve been brought up alongside the goats and they try to climb like goats. They also won’t eat food from the floor (another goat trait) and they still sleep with the goats in a cute little foursome.

Stefan
Stefan the valais blacknose sheep came to Fripps on Jodie’s birthday. He was destined for the freezer but his owner decided he and his brother were too pretty to go in the freezer and asked Jodie if she would re-home them. Jodie jumped at the chance as this particular breed of sheep are extremely friendly (they act like puppies!) and of course she would rather give them a lovely life than see them end up on someone’s plate. When the boys arrived, Jodie put them in with the other sheep and goats and it was immediately like they’d always been there. They went straight to the hay and started munching. They have settled in so well and are so happy and content. Stefan is calmer than Damon and quieter. He loves a scratch and a stroke but he gently comes over to ask for it. He’s a little sweetheart. He is so loving and friendly. These sheep literally don’t have a bad bone in their bodies. They’re adorable. They’re good with all the other animals and they love snuggling with everyone. Jodie is head over heels in love with them.

Damon
Damon was destined for the freezer along with his brother Stefan. Luckily their owner thought they were too pretty and allowed Jodie to re-home them. Damon is so confident and loving. Within a day of being at Fripps he was licking Jodie all over (like he’s a dog!!). He absolutely loves attention and is so affectionate. He’s so gentle with all the other animals and they all love him. Both the boys favourite treat is a digestive biscuit. They are honestly the sweetest boys and they are no trouble whatsoever. Jodie is so grateful that she was given them instead of them being slaughtered. They will have the best life now with all the food and attention they need.

Kai
Kai came to Fripps at 2 weeks old. He was being bottle fed by a lovely local lady as he had been orphaned. She was supposed to give him back to the farmer once he was big enough but she couldn’t face giving him back knowing he would go to slaughter so she paid the farmer market value for him and then contacted me and asked if I would take him. Lambs go to slaughter as young as 10 weeks old. We are so glad she bought him off the farmer as otherwise this little one would have gone into the food chain at a very young age. Kai has had a few problems, a touch of diarrhoea and a bit of a cough but he seems really strong otherwise. He’s seen the vet a few times and had medication and we have everything crossed for him. He’s a gorgeous, cheeky little boy who follows Jodie around all day. His best friends are Kol and Finn.

Finn
Finn was just under a week old when he came to Fripps. A man had bought him from a farmer as he and his wife had fallen in love with him and didn’t want him to be slaughtered, however he’d been living in the back of a van!!! They soon realised he needed a proper home and contacted us. He had really bad diarrhoea the day he arrived and he’s never really fully recovered. We have tried everything for him. His poos sometimes go hard but then the next day they’re runny again. He’s eating and drinking normally and doesn’t have a temperature which are good signs. It’s just annoying that no one can figure out what’s wrong. The vet has been out about 4 times to him. Anyway he’s bright and happy and bouncing around with the other lambs. And he follows Jodie everywhere. He’s so cute. He’s the smallest of the trio that all arrived in the same week (Kol and Kai too) but he’s very confident and cheeky. We are keeping everything crossed for him!!

Jeremy
Jodie bought Jeremy, Vinny and Josh from a farmer. She happened to be dog training at a friends place and there was a field full of sheep next door. They wandered around to the farm house and saw a separate pen of baby lambs with no mums. Jodie asked the farmer what he was doing with them and he smirked and said “they’re going to slaughter next week” - Jodie immediately offered him some money for them and took them home that day to save them from slaughter. Jeremy is the most amazing little boy ever. He’s so affectionate and just wants kisses and cuddles the whole time. Any time one of us goes into the field with him, he runs over for strokes. He’s like a puppy, always following us about and is glued to our sides all day. He’s a firm favourite at the farm now due to how affectionate he is.

Josh
Jodie bought Jeremy, Vinny and Josh from a farmer. She happened to be dog training at a friends place and there was a field full of sheep next door. They wandered around to the farm house and saw a separate pen of baby lambs with no mums. Jodie asked the farmer what he was doing with them and he smirked and said “they’re going to slaughter next week” - Jodie immediately offered him some money for them and took them home that day to save them from slaughter. Josh is so cute and friendly but doesn’t crave human attention like most of the other lambs. As long as he has his milk he’s then happy to wander off and do his own thing.

Vinny
Jodie bought Jeremy, Vinny and Josh from a farmer. She happened to be dog training at a friends place and there was a field full of sheep next door. They wandered around to the farm house and saw a separate pen of baby lambs with no mums. Jodie asked the farmer what he was doing with them and he smirked and said “they’re going to slaughter next week” - Jodie immediately offered him some money for them and took them home that day to save them from slaughter. Vinny was the smallest of those that Jodie rescued. He has been quite poorly; we’re not sure if this is because he’s the runt or because he didn’t have colostrum from mum. Colostrum is the first milk that mum produces and it gives the babies all the anti bodies they need to fight infection. Without it they don’t always do too well. Anyway, Vinny is a fighter and has always overcome infections and viruses. Vinny is very affectionate and loves attention. He will happily sit on your lap for hours. He’s such a gorgeous little boy.

Niklaus
Niklaus came to us with his sister Freya. Their owners could no longer take care of them. He’s still got his balls so we’ll be getting him castrated asap. He’s such a sweet boy and very friendly. They both have settled in so well and we love them both so much. They follow us round the farm all day. They are so cute.

Freya
Freya came to us with her brother Niklaus when their owners could no longer look after them. She is the sweetest little girl ever. She’s so loving and affectionate. She’s the first ewe we’ve taken in as previously we’ve always only been asked to take boys. She’s so wonderful. We all fell in love with her immediately as she’s so loving.

Bendy Wendy
Jodie was scrolling through Instagram one day when she saw a post asking for a loving home for Bendy Wendy. Wendy had been born deformed at a sheep farm and wasn’t growing as quickly as the other lambs at the farm. Because of this she was getting trampled by the other lambs when it came to feeding time. Wendy was all the way up in Scotland but Jodie took one look at her photo and fell in love with her. She reached out to her owner Emma and said she could offer her a loving home at Fripps and Emma agreed. Jodie then reached out to a friend of hers Bev who lives in Scotland. The amazing Bev agreed to pick Wendy up and bring her to Fripps!! Bev and her friends even gave her a bath and blow dry before she came as she was so filthy from being trampled by the other lambs. From the first moment Wendy arrived here, the other lambs loved her. They seemed to know she was different and delicate and they all surrounded her as if to protect her. They were so gentle with her. Bendy Wendy now lives her best life. She never gets trampled, she is always the first to the food in the morning when we serve their breakfast and she loves spending time in the woods with the other lambs. She’s such a little character and comes running whenever you call her. We are totally obsessed with her!!
