Meet the Reptiles

Jesse
Jesse is a bearded dragon. Jodie was in a reptile shop one day and the owner handed Jesse to her and said “can you take him? Nobody wants him as he has no feet” When Jesse was a baby he had his feet bitten off by other dragons and subsequently had sat in the reptile shop ever since. Nobody wanted to buy him as he was “deformed”. Jodie immediately said yes and then set about finding a suitable vivarium and accessories for him. Jesse has since had a house upgrade thanks to Claire who bought him a new vivarium. Jesse now leads the life of luxury in his dragon palace and he gets lots of fuss and attention. He’s a really sweet loving boy who loves cuddles and strokes (especially chin strokes). Everybody loves Jesse because of his sweet nature. He’s got a huge personality and loves to free roam all over the floor.

Zilla
Zilla is a 6ft long Nial Monitor Lizard. She came to us because she outgrew her previous owners home. He no longer had the space for her and she was confined to a box much too small for her. She is not very friendly; monitor lizards have a tendency to be grumpy! When we go into her enclosure she hisses at us and whips her tail around (a whip from her tail would really hurt!). We had a few days only to build an enclosure for her and luckily our amazing builder came to the rescue and got it done in time. She even has her own pool in her enclosure to swim in! Her favourite things to eat are rats and eggs. She’s an amazing lizard and we all love watching her as she prowls around her enclosure and basks under her heat lamp.

Thumper
This is thumper, our massive corn snake. He’s named after the Lancaster bomber. We took him in when his owners couldn’t cope any more. Their dogs were jumping up at the vivarium and scaring him and he needed to go somewhere with more room and where he could have a quiet life. So far he’s eating really well and seems to have settled right in. He’s a very big boy for a corn snake!!

B.B
B.B (named after B.B King) is a boa constrictor. He’s approximately 5ft long at the moment but could grow to 13ft!!! He was brought to us by the lovely Ryan from Save the Animals Save the World. Ryan specialises in finding homes for reptiles and we’ve had a few from him now. B.B is friendly and Jodie has had him out of the viv a few times. We are going to move him into a giant viv very soon as he needs more space and the precious owner had him in a viv that was too small for him.

Sweetpea
Sweetpea is a corn snake who was brought to us by the lovely Ryan from Save the Animals Save the World. She’s extremely friendly and lets all of us pick her up and hold her. She absolutely loves water and bathes every day in her pond in her viv. She, like all reptiles that come to us, needs a bigger viv so we are working on creating our reptile centre so that we can give her all the space she needs. She’s a lovely snake and everyone here is very taken with her.

King
King is a royal python. His story is a funny one. He escaped from his tank at his previous owners house and they couldn’t find him anywhere in the house. Some 9 months later the owners were away on holiday and the house sitter saw a snake slither across the floor. By then the owners had gotten rid of his vivarium as they thought he was gone for good. We got the call to ask if we would take him and luckily we had a spare vivarium here. King now happily lives in our reptile room. He’s very friendly and we often get him out to hold him and let him explore.
