Meet the Owls

  • Godric

    Godric

Godric came to Fripps at only 6 weeks old. Jodie kept him indoors while he was a baby and couldn’t fly before moving him into a HUGE aviary outside that she’d had built especially for him. Godric is a Eurasian Eagle Owl, the biggest of the owls with a wing span of 2 metres!! A lot of eagle owls end up being re-homed as they become too big and too aggressive for their owners to cope with. Because Jodie hand-reared him, he trusts Jodie and has never yet been aggressive (not that she would re-home him if he was!). Godric is one of John’s favourite animals at Fripps as he’s so majestic and got so much character. Godric “talks” to Jodie whereby she hoots at him and he hoots back. He’s a very impressive bird and everyone is mesmerised by him when they meet him!

  • Eleanor

    Eleanor

Eleanor is a Spectacled Owl. Named after the amazing Eleanor Roosevelt, she’s a powerful but gentle lady! She loves head strokes and is very affectionate. Before Jodie agreed to re-home her, she was told “she’s a sweetheart” and this has stayed true. Eleanor isn’t phased by anyone who walks into her aviary. She lives together with little Mags who is a Mottled Owl and they are best friends.

  • Mags

    Mags

Mags (full name Margaret) is a mottled owl. She came to Fripps as a baby with Eleanor. She’s a feisty little lady and very vocal (she hoots to let you know she wants her dinner). She loves Eleanor and they’re joined at the hip. They live together in a huge aviary where they have space to fly about. Neither Mags nor Eleanor are aggressive at all and people can happily walk into their aviary to get up close to them!

  • Tawnette

    Tawnette

Tawnette is a tawny owl. She came to us when she fell down someone’s chimney and was all concussed and covered in soot. Jodie immediately fed her and gave her water as she was hungry and dehydrated. Tawnette then gave herself a wonderful bath to get all the soot off. Tawnette has half of one of her wings missing, which wasn’t apparent straight away because her feathers were still there and covering it. She can’t fly at all so can now never be released. We built her a huge aviary and now she’s quite happy flitting about in there (she can get herself up onto perches). She eats LOADS. Shes a real character and sits and waits for her dinner every night. We love her.
